Review: Shadows of Scars and Sorrows

20140315-202044.jpg

Hello readers! I am excited to bring you my review of Mary Palmerin’s second installment in her Sorrow series, Shadows of Scars and Sorrows. It is a gripping and steamy follow up to her successful debut novel, Succumbing to Scars and Sorrows, where we were first introduced to the hero and heroine, Everett and Lyla. I have become good friends with Mary over this past year, and I feel honored to read her work and review it.

Synopsis: Everett Brown has secrets. Secrets that Lyla has been waiting for him to tell her for months. He has successfully evaded them, but Lyla is becoming impatient. With the vicious attack of his beloved still fresh in his mind along with the painful loss he feels, his emotions play a battle against one another, testing his strength and ability to hold himself together. Will the secrets that he keeps jeopardize his relationship to the woman who has his heart? Or will he learn to cope with memories that resurface with a vengeance and move on to the next phase of his life… marriage. In this second installment of this beautifully tragic series, Everett Brown will face the family he thought he knew, a past he tries so desperately to disassociate himself from, and the potential for his life to be turned upside again. But is he strong enough to make it through another nightmare? With Michael Thomas and Davis Moore still free, justice has yet to be served. In this whirlwind contemporary erotic romance novel, this young couple’s relationship will be tested with several wicked curveballs and twists that even they aren’t prepared for.

Once again Ms. Palmerin has written a book full of depth, tragedy, and flawed yet heroic characters in their own right. We get into the mind of Everett Brown, as this story is written from his POV. Yes, Everett. Sweet, sweet loving Everett. His love for Lyla is revealed even further through this beautiful story that will have you on edge up until the very last sentence.  THE VERY LAST SENTENCE!!!! Damn you Mary! I can say that, she loves me:) !

I was already mentally prepared for the ending because I had the opportunity to speak with Ms. Palmerin on the radio a few weeks ago. In case you missed it, I was a guest host on Seattle Wave radio with Lori Ness. We got to talk in detail about Mary’s writing, the characters, and upcoming projects.

But back to the book…yes, darn cliff hanger but a perfect one if there is such a thing (insert pouty face) and plenty of steamy sex and crazy twists and turns that makes up for giving me anxiety at the end of this story!

Overall, this is a beautifully written journey of love, survival, and the power of the human spirit. Like her debut novel, this story is not all hearts and flowers. The emotions are raw and exposed. The pain is real. But so is the love and it’s felt from the heart. Ms. Palmerin’s courageous storytelling will move you, shake you, and make you feel the rollercoaster of emotions throughout the book.

Thank you Mary for sharing your story with me and I look forward to the next chapter in the lives of Everett and Lyla.

In case you missed it the first time around, here is my interview with Ms. Palmerin. Enjoy!

What was your inspiration for your story? Not every small town in America is like Mayberry. Lyla is from a town similar to that. Her hometown was the kind of place that she wanted to leave and never revisit. I wanted to create a strong female character that some individuals in society think do not exist. They are wrong. Women like Lyla Harper are living with their demons and pasts every day. They struggle just like she does. Lyla is not the “typical” woman. She is damaged physically and emotionally by her past. I had to convey to my readers that despite unfortunate and violent circumstances, you can overcome anything if you have the power of love.

Lyla’s story is very deep and emotional. Was it difficult to write such raw emotions? It was hard for me to express such dark and devastating emotions. However, there are women everywhere struggling with body image issues and being violated either physically or emotionally. I wanted to be the one to tell such a touching and emotional story and remove the stigma that it holds.

What is your first writing memory? I have been writing since I was 8 years old. I would write everything from poems to short stories. My first memory was a project that I was given in early elementary school. Our assignment was to illustrate and write about our hero. I chose to write about my grandmother. I still have that book!

The cover of your book is beautiful. Can you tell us about the artist? Khristian Seaton and I have been friends since we were 12 years old, roughly 14 years! We both grew up in a tiny Midwestern town. After graduating from college, we reconnected and our friendship has blossomed. We have supported one another in our endeavors. She has her Bachelor’s degree is art and was also the winner of a reality show featuring tattoo artists. She now owns her own tattoo studio and also does professional photography. Her portrayal of Lyla was everything and more of how I envisioned her. Khristian’s work is beyond amazing and I am grateful to be a part of her career, just as she is mine. I am proud to call her one of my great friends. I will tell you that she will also create the cover to book two of the Sorrow Series, Shadows of Scars and Sorrow.

Lyla has a number of tattoos. Is there any personal significance to them? I have a love for body art. I, also, have tattoos. Twelve to be exact! Each one has a meaning to me and I wanted Lyla to have some that had significance to her. She has a lotus flower, the Virgin Mary, and Hebrew Scripture tattoos. I believe the most significant one is located between her shoulders that reads Only God Can Judge Me in Hebrew. Due to her life experiences, I think that is how she feels. Tattoos, to me, show individuality. That is something I am not afraid to do!

Looking back on your now published story, is there any part you would’ve changed? It has been a journey. It still seems surreal. Though it has not been easy, I would not change one second even if I had the chance to do so. It has been an amazing experience and I am grateful to tell such a touching and unique story. It is dream come true. I have met so many amazing people along the way and I look forward to the future!

Music plays a part in Lyla’s being. Are the songs in the book close to your heart as well? Do you have a writing playlist you listen to? Music has always been a huge part of my life. Every song tells a different story and evokes various emotions. Certain songs or artists will help me to express those emotions into my stories. I listen to a variety of genres, but here are a few of my favorites that I cannot live without: Florence + the Machine, Joss Stone, Kate Nash, Lily Allen, Adele, Sia, Bon Iver, Angus & Julia Stone, Ray LaMontagne, The Lumineers, Of Monsters and Men, Mumford & Sons… I could go on forever about music. I always listen to music while writing, usually to the above artists.

What did you do to celebrate your book getting published? It has been CRAZY busy these past two weeks since it went live. I plan on going upstate to celebrate with family and friends next month before my book signings start.

What has been the greatest advice you’ve gotten from another author? NEVER GIVE UP. I have my great friend and fellow author of Whatever it Takes & Falling from Disgrace, L. Maretta, to thank for that. She helped me during the entire production process, gave me helpful advice, and most of all she provided me with tons of support and understanding. She is a talented author and a great friend.

Describe yourself in 3 words: loving, creative, spontaneous My author crush is: SYLVIA DAY!!! I have been reading her novels for years and my favorites are her historical romance novels. Favorite book (or top 3): Seven Years to Sin, To Kill a Mockingbird, Pride and Prejudice Guilty pleasure is: TATTOOS!!!! I have twelve The song I can never tire from is: Breathe Me by Sia

Last movie seen: The Conjuring with my sister. I was beyond terrified. I can never see that again. If you could collaborate with any author it would be: SYLVIA DAY!!!

Dream vacation: ITALY!!!

Bluestockings bookstore is located at 172 Allen Street, NYC. Come on down and get your autographed copy!

In case you missed it, here’s my review and interview I did with Ms. Palmerin a few months ago. Hope to see you all on Saturday!

******************************

I am super excited to introduce you to an amazing book review and interview. “Succumbing to Scars and Sorrow,” by Mary E. Palmerin is a deeply emotional story of how true love endures. This is not your typical hearts and flowers love story, but rather one of raw emotion that grips at your heart and doesn’t let go until the very end.

SUCCUMBING

SYNOPSIS: Lyla Harper is sure she will be alone for the rest of her life. After she leaves Kansas for college in Chicago, she hopes she will never have to face her dark secrets again. Four years later, Lyla lands an internship at a prestigious firm, hoping to plant her roots and close the door to her past forever. Unfortunately, Lyla is about to learn that the past has a way of finding her, no matter how well she hides.

After she is assigned to assist a marketing millionaire and notorious jerk, Lyla attempts to overcome her pessimistic view of the world and move on with her life. But after she lays eyes on her drop-dead gorgeous neighbor, Everett Brown, her secrets begin to resurface, prompting her to regress into her old coping ways. Led by curiosity and an undeniable attraction, Lyla pursues a passionate relationship with Everett and slowly begins to feel like a woman again. Now all she has to do is decide whether to tell him the truth.

In this contemporary romance, only time will tell if a young woman’s new lover will be able to save her from herself as her past emerges from the darkness to confront her once and for all.

Sounds captivating doesn’t it? Well, it is. Once I finally had the time to sit and get into the book, I couldn’t put it down. In her debut novel, Ms. Palmerin draws you into this heartbreaking at times, yet beautiful love story of Lyla and Everett. Written with such grace and emotion, you will become invested in these characters while feeling their love, elation, pain and sorrow.

Succumbing to Scars and Sorrows also confronts a profound subject that haunts Lyla, the heroine of the story. Without giving away too much information, I will say that the scars that Lyla carries with her are ones that had me in tears throughout the book. But don’t worry, there is plenty of angst, action, and steamy hot sex! Palmerin does a tremendous job and balancing out the emotional rollercoaster ride with plenty of highs and lows that make this a definite page-turner.

What I loved about this book is the author’s true courage in writing about something that isn’t easily portrayed in a seemingly book boyfriend love story. And yes, you will fall in love with all things Everett. In fact, you will be jonesing for more of him which will come to fruition in book 2! Yes, there will be a second book and it is from Everett’s POV!

So get your tissues, and go purchase this beautifully written book that will remind you that true love doesn’t see the scars that we carry both inside and out. This story is the epitome of the words I often say: You are perfectly imperfect.

Last, but certainly not least, I am honored to introduce you to a truly gifted author and friend. Her name is C. E. Hansen and her debut novel It’s A Crime is one hot read!

Synopsis: Wealthy New York socialite Grace Preston uses men for amusement, holding her heart inside an ice fortress for protection. Spurned by a sociopath male model, Grace picks up a new man with all the right moves; smooth as bourbon, Cole slides under her wall and touches her in places she thought were well-guarded. But after a weekend of fiery passion, he leaves, devastating her.
Cole Grayson has spent ten years building his commercial real estate firm and chasing the arsonist who killed his family when he was a boy. Women are a dalliance, and have no place in his personal quest. Then Grace rocks his world—not only sexually, but in her arms, his nightmares cease. To protect her, he pushes her away; he’s close to finding the culprit and Grace must not get tangled in the cross-fire.
When women matching Grace’s description start turning up dead in Central Park, Cole is forced to divide his influence between personal revenge and protection for the woman he has come to love. But throwing money at the problem only goes so far. Grace is in danger—can he get to her in time?

Sounds like a page turner, right? Well, it is and then some! It’s a suspenseful, thrilling, and erotic story that will get both your adrenaline and lady parts pumping! Ms. Hansen’s debut is nothing short of amazing! The dramatic prologue immediately pulls you in and gets your heart racing.

What I loved about this story is the multifaceted plot. It builds on all of your emotions from the mysterious back story of Grace’s mother, to the suspenseful and gripping ending. And sex? Oh yes, there is sex alright and plenty of it! Get the sham wow’s out ladies because we have a winner! The sexual chemistry between Grace and Cole jumps off the pages from their very first encounter and does not disappoint!

It’s hard to talk about this book in detail without fear of a spoiler alert. But what I can say is that C.E. Hansen delivers quite a punch with her first novel. So if you love a steamy story with lust, love, murder, and revenge, then go download this book now! And here’s the good news! The story of Grace and Cole continues in her follow up book, It’s A Shame. That’s right! No waiting around with a book bangover! So do yourself a favor and download both! The kindle price is only $3.99 each and it is money well spent! But before you do, please acquaint yourself with Ms. Hansen. I had the opportunity to sit and chat with this talented writer!

It’s a pleasure to sit and talk with you! How’d you get into writing ?

When I was young, I used to write silly poems and short stories about boys and girls meeting, holding hands, kissing. I think I was 10 or something like that. I won a creative writing award and shoved it into my drawer. I’ve always loved writing, but I always had a different style than what was currently being published, so I just tucked most of it away. After the Twilight phenom, I pulled those old half written stories out and started right back up and now, well, I just can’t stop. I can’t find the off switch.

This is your debut novel. How did you celebrate ?

With a lot of wine, but then again, I celebrate walking in the door from work with wine…so I guess I didn’t do anything different other than sit on the edge of my seat and hope for good reviews.

What do you love about this story? First and foremost, I love Grace and Cole. I love that she is what she is. She likes sex and wanted no attachment, until she met Cole of course. The secondary characters were fun to create and have a much bigger presence in book 2, It’s A Shame.

Your book has some yummy sex. Was it difficult to write such kinkiness? I love writing sex scenes. They are fun and, well, they are fun.Actually, no. I think that you can only write what you know, or what you can imagine really well. Mine is a combination of the two—80% knowledge, 20% imagination.

Who are your favorite authors ? Oh shit, I’m gonna date myself here. Kathleen Woodiwiss, Rosemary Rogers, there are so many that I can’t name them all. I used to read on the bus going to work on Wall Street everyday from Staten Island to Manhattan, and remember getting sideways glances from the other passengers, who used book covers to hide their smut covers. Me…hell no. I Love Smut, I Read Smut and now I’m proud to say, I write SMUT. It’s fun and sexy.

Any writing rituals ? If you consider having a cocktail, or two, or three before writing then yes, I have a ritual. But, I do have to admit, it makes the next day’s edits a lot of fun. I’m totally nuts when I write with wine. Good title for a book, by the way, Write With Wine…I think I’ll use that.

What advice can you give aspiring writers? DO IT!

Who do you see as your Cole and Grace ? Any particular celebrities ? When I was writing him I was thinking Chris Hemsworth with black hair, Elisha Cuthbert as Grace… Michelle…Katie Holmes…I’m dreaming, I know, but that is what this is all about right?

Thanks to C. E. Hansen for your wonderful story and interview! Go purchase her books now! You can also follow her on Twitter at @CynthiaEHansen ! She is a true sweetheart and one of the funniest ladies I know so follow her for a good time!

Beautiful Player

Hello GREYsessed readers! I have an exciting giveaway and interview with one of my favorite authors ever- Christina Lauren! The dynamic duo is back with the fifth book in the Beautiful Bastard series and it is amazeballs. But first, let’s get to the news that is all over social media. WE HAVE OUR CHRISTIAN GREY!!! E.L. James tweeted last night, “Stow your twitchy palms ladies…our man is here. Welcome to #TeamFifty @JamieDornan1 x.” SQUEEEEEE!!!  Dornam, 31, is a former Calvin Klein model and is best known here in the U.S. For his role in ABC’s Once Upon a Time.

So, what are your thoughts? My mentality throughout this process was that Christian Bale was never going to be Christian Grey so might as well buckle up and enjoy the ride. I was in support of Charlie Hunnam and I am for Jamie Dornan. In fact, I am excited to see him grace us with his lucky charms. Last night the general consensus seemed to be overall happiness with the new casting decision. But with millions of fans comes millions of opinions on who is the perfect Christian Grey. There can only be one. And if anyone is more disappointed her CG won’t be in IMAX proportions to drool over, it’s me. I am still working off the copious amounts of ice cream eaten to soothe my disappointment. Well, I’ll always have American Psycho.

Just keep in mind that Team Fifty is tirelessly working to bring us the best movie possible. Remember that this is Ms. James’ baby that she is putting on the big screen for millions to see. So keep calm and trust the movie magic making process. And while you’re waiting, can we discuss the pictures here of Jamie? I’m thinking he’s Red Room worthy, yes? I’d sign the NDA….just saying.

As if those pictures weren’t hot enough…get ready for Will Sumner ladies!!!

A bombshell bookworm. A chronic Casanova. And a lesson in chemistry too scandalous for school.
When Hanna Bergstrom receives a lecture from her overprotective brother about neglecting her social life and burying herself in grad school, she’s determined to tackle his implied assignment: get out, make friends, start dating. And who better to turn her into the sultry siren every man wants than her brother’s gorgeous best friend, Will Sumner, venture capitalist and unapologetic playboy?
Will takes risks for a living, but he’s skeptical about this challenge of Hanna’s…until the wild night his innocently seductive pupil tempts him into bed- and teaches him a thing or two about being with a woman he can’t forget. Now that Hanna’s discovered the power of her own sex appeal, it’s up to Will to prove he’s the only man she’ll ever need.
(Amazon)

Three words: HOLY. MOLY. GUACAMOLE. <<<—- YES, SHOUTY CAPITALS!  Okay readers…..hold on to your panties because Beautiful Player is coming and you are going to want to after you read this book!!!! If you think I have overshared my total girl crush on Christina Lauren in past blogs, well that was nothing! Beautiful Player is officially my favorite book of the series and for many reasons. Christina and Lauren are at the top of their writing game with this saucy and smexy story that pulls you in from page one and doesn’t stop until you are completely book banged at the very end.

Steamy sex? Check.

Laugh out loud humor that is pure genius? Check.

Smart, sexy, seductive man named Will? Check.

Beautiful bookworm with an unfiltered mouth I wish I had named Hanna? Check.

Steamy sex? Oh, mentioned that already but its so damn good. Check.

Oh, and this…… SPIDER MONKEY. Check. Check. Check.

Yes, it’s obvious I just LOVE this book so hard! You will fall for Will Sumner. And probably fall hard. As the book is aptly named, he is a player. Wait-don’t fret my pet. He’s not the I-hope-you-get-an-STD kind of character. Just wait. You will be the smitten kitten just like Will is for Hanna.

And speaking of Hanna, you will love her just as much. And why? For one, she has a brain and isn’t ashamed to use it. Two-she has the balls I wish I had in real life. No, not those balls. But the balls to say what comes to mind and to own it completely. And three- you don’t want to reach through your book or smut phone to strangle her. You know what I mean ladies. The part where the female character is being wishy- washy or whiny and you start screaming at your book like a crazy person. I did not feel any of that. But what you will feel in this book is chemistry. For more reasons that one but you’ll have to read it to know what I am talking about.

I could go on and on but that would probably mean I would spill some of the delicious secrets that await you. Yes…..secrets and surprises. So do yourself a favor, preorder the book if you haven’t done so. It’s $4.74 on Amazon. That’s cheaper than my darn Starbucks people! Then get yourself a Sham Wow for the panty cleanup and a box of tissues for the tears from laughing and crying.

You can’t go downstairs with a giant jizz stain on your shirt.”

Okay, that one falls under the laughing while crying category. But yes, there is so much humor in this book but there are a few moments that are pure tenderness. Oh Will….swoon. And speaking of surprises and Will, I had the honor of asking him a few questions! So please enjoy this interview with the dashing Will Sumner.

WAIT A SECOND… WANT A CHANCE TO WIN A SIGNED SET OF THE BEAUTIFUL BASTARD SERIES???? Leave me a comment at the end of this blog telling me why you love the Beautiful Bastard series and that will enter you into the contest! And don’t forget to follow the lovely Christina Lauren on Pinterest. The new Beautiful Player board will be up for viewing soon. (Beautiful Bastard Official Page)

Interview with Will Sumner:

Hello Will! Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Michele, thanks for having me.
First off, tell me a little bit about yourself. Describe yourself in three sentences or less.
I was trained as a biologist, and now work in venture capitalism with Max Stella (who you met in Beautiful Stranger), where I identify promise start up biotech firms in which to invest and promote. I live in Manhattan and am in a relationship with Hanna Bergstrom.
Besides running, what’s another thing you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I’m a big comic book and graphic novel fan. I love to read and whenever I get the chance back home in the Pacific Northwest, I love to fish.
Tell us your first impression of Hanna that day in the park.
She surprised me. I remembered her mainly as the little sister, shy and awkward. She was still awkward [laughs] but in a disarming way that was more unselfconsciously beautiful than anything else. I’m sure I fell harder and faster than she did.
How did you feel about Hanna putting her sexual life in your hands?
It was maybe a little weird at first? I wasn’t quite sure what she was asking me to do, whether she wanted someone to hang out with outside of lab, or literally wanted a dating teacher. When I realized she wanted the latter—but even she didn’t fully realize that—it was a bit terrifying for me. Mainly because she really had no idea how unique and refreshing she is, and that I had the potential to want to keep her to myself.
Describe Hanna in 3 words
Driven, sunshine, sex.

Can you tell us something about yourself that nobody knows?
There probably isn’t much about me that no one knows, because any secrets I’ve had in the past years have been pulled out of me by my zany bombshell. But people are always surprised to find out that I hate sushi. I suppose if I live in Manhattan and work in venture capitalism, I’m supposed to like all kinds of food but I just can’t handle raw fish.

“All that is rare for the rare” can you explain what provoked you to inscribe that on Hanna? And would you truly like to see that tattooed on her?
The quote itself is taken from a larger passage,
“One must shed the bad taste of wanting to agree with many. ‘Good’ is no longer good when one’s neighbor mouths it. And how should there be a ‘common good’! The term contradicts itself: whatever can be common always has little value. In the end it must be as it is and always has been: great things remain for the great, abysses for the profound, nuances and shudders for the refined, and, in brief, all that is rare for the rare.”
It’s maybe a logical point, or maybe a depressing one, that we can’t all have exceptional things, because if we all have access to them, they cease to be exceptional. I’ve known a lot of women, but I’ve never known anyone like Hanna. She is blissfully unique, my rare treasure, and I want all of those unique things for her. I don’t mind if it means I’m putting her on a pedestal; it’s just true. Of course I’d love to see it tattooed on her.
Can we expect news of a proposal soon? If so, what kind of ring do you envision being “the one ” ?
Oh, well . . . that’s something I’ll have to stay mum on for now. Sorry. . .

Thanks Will. We have loved watching yours and Hanna’s love story unfold.
Thanks again, Michele, loved visiting with you.

A big squishy hug and thank you to Christina Lauren for the opportunity to read Beautiful Player. You are truly talented and beautiful in more ways than one. I’d also like to thank Simon & Schuster for their ongoing support for bloggers like myself.

Fifty Shades of Dana Brunetti

Hello GREYsessed readers! I am excited to bring you a special blog with our own Dana Brunetti in the spotlight! I am a HUGE awards show junkie and this Sunday is the 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. “House of Cards” already received two Emmys with a total of nine nominations. Dana is the executive producer for the political-based drama that made groundbreaking history by becoming the first digitally distributed series to earn any Emmy nods.

If you listened in when I co-hosted on Northwest Prime radio, you know that Dana has a multitude of projects in the works and soon to be released. One of them is Captain Phillips, the action-packed thriller based on real events, stars Tom Hanks and hits the big screen on October 11 of this year.

20130920-221132.jpg

I just had the opportunity to chat again briefly with Dana about a few of his projects and the upcoming Emmys. He’s an extremely busy man as you may have heard he’s producing a particular movie that has the world on edge until its August 1st release. So I truly appreciate him taking the time to answer a few quick questions.

Congrats on the 9 Emmy nods. If, or shall I say when “House of Cards” wins, do you have an acceptance speech prepared? No, I think Breaking Bad will win .I am going to have all body parts crossed for you nonetheless! (Dana also commented that filming is still in production when asked if he could give away any hint as to what will become of the ruthless Frank Underwood. Can’t blame a girl for trying!)

20130920-220146.jpg

How Does it feel to be featured in numerous media pieces as someone who is front and center of the movement of technology? It feels great, although I may be getting too much credit as it takes a lot of people to pull off what we’re doing.

I’m pretty sure the Nielsen ratings are through the roof now that we have our Christian Grey. Are you a fan of “Sons of Anarchy”? I’ve been a fan of SOA since the first episode.

20130920-221721.jpg

Now the question we all really want to know … Who will you be wearing at the Emmys? And if Johanna is attending, who will she be wearing? I’m wearing a Burberry Tux. Johanna is wearing a dress… I don’t know by who – someone expensive!

20130920-221124.jpg

If you would like to listen in on more of the many projects and insight of this amazing producer and entrepreneur, here are a few links to some of the radio and televised interviews he’s been part of.

I have said it before and I’ll continue to support the fact that we are very blessed to have one of the most diverse and talented producers on Team Fifty for the movie. If you follow Dana on Twitter, then you know the uproar and backlash that surrounded the recent casting of Christian and Ana. I applaud all the true Fifty Shades fans that have kept positive, even if Charlie and Dakota were not your first choice. Dana pretty much summed it up with his tweet post-casting: “There can only be one…and it is done.” Point well said. So do yourself a favor, listen to the links listed above. Dana’s talent and vision has resulted in an incredible career thus far. You will have no doubts that this producer, along with the rest of Team Fifty, will deliver a movie that will have you begging for more- spankings and all.

A big thank you to Dana Brunetti for stopping by for a quick chat. You have been nothing but a trooper throughout this crazy Fifty Shades phenomenon. I think I can speak for all of the fans out there, and say that we wish you the best of luck on Sunday and in all your future endeavors.

Please remember to watch the Emmys this Sunday at 8 pm EST and don’t forget to watch all the red carpet pre-show coverage. You may catch a glimpse of Dana in his Burberry tux! Love & laters©, Michele

50 Shades of Succumbing to Scars and Sorrows

Hello GREYsessed readers!

In this contemporary romance, only time will tell if a young woman’s new lover will be able to save her from herself as her past emerges from the darkness to confront her once and for all.

scars

Palmerin does a tremendous job and balancing out the emotional rollercoaster ride with plenty of highs and lows that make this a definite page-turner.

scars2

What I loved about this book is the author’s true courage in writing about something that isn’t easily portrayed in a seemingly book boyfriend love story. And yes, you will fall in love with all things Everett. In fact, you will be jonesing for more of him which will come to fruition in book 2! Yes, there will be a second book and it is from Everett’s POV!

So get your tissues, and go purchase this beautifully written book that will remind you that true love doesn’t see the scars that we carry both inside and out. This story is the epitome of the words I often say: You are perfectly imperfect.

951

Describe yourself in 3 words: loving, creative, spontaneous
My author crush is: SYLVIA DAY!!! I have been reading her novels for years and my favorites are her historical romance novels.
Favorite book (or top 3): Seven Years to Sin, To Kill a Mockingbird, Pride and Prejudice
Guilty pleasure is: TATTOOS!!!! I have twelve
The song I can never tire from is: Breathe Me by Sia

Last movie seen: The Conjuring with my sister. I was beyond terrified. I can never see that again. If you could collaborate with any author it would be: SYLVIA DAY!!!

Dream vacation: ITALY!!!

Actor you fan girl over: William Levy, Alexander Skaarsgard, Joe Manganiello (what girl can pick just one?)

Thank you so much, Mary! I have had a wonderful time getting to know you here and on Twitter! I wish you nothing but success and happiness for you!

Charlie Tang-Oh no you Didn’t!

20130902-173400.jpg

That’s right…I am talking to you Little Miss Hater. You know who you are…projectile vomiting your evilness all over social media in reaction to the Fifty Shades casting. But first…Hello GREYsessed readers! Are you still flying high like Charlie Tango over casting? Or perhaps you’re in your closet crying with a tub of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream… vanilla, or course! The last two days have definitely been a whirlwind and emotions are running at an all time high. Well, in case you missed it because you were living under a rock, Dakota Johnson and Charlie Huunam were cast as the coveted “it” roles.

BTRc4JtIcAAxhg1

Where were you when you heard the big news and what was your reaction? I myself was not completely surprised. I had a feeling that lesser known actors would be chosen and I think that was a good idea. We all know that Christian Bale is my Christian Grey and I would’ve paid any amount of money to see him in the Red Room. However, that isn’t going to happen, and the same goes for all your top picks as well. But both Dakota and Charlie have acting credentials and we should all sit back and trust in E L James and Team Fifty. NEWS FLASH: Dana Brunetti and Michael DeLuca are movie making magic. They are award-winning producers and like I have stated before, we are lucky to have such talent on this project.

BTQM9_8IUAAf3QE

But sometimes with the good comes the bad. The bad being all the negativity and hate being spewed all over social media. If you are on Twitter, then you have seen the awful tweets being sent to both EL James and Dana Brunetti. And in her usual classy way, Ms. James tweeted, “To all the supporters, lovers and haters-thank you so much for the passion that you have for this project. You all rock. All of you.” Dana also took to social media to inform everyone that “There is a lot that goes into casting that isn’t just looks. Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor etc.” Point well said Mr. Brunetti. He also later tweeted that “There can only be one… and it is done.” Another good point. Michael DeLuca, also weighted in on the casting by tweeting, “Auditions were stunning, incredible chemistry!” All I know is that if Christian Grey had his way, all these haters would get a riding crop to the arse, and not for their pleasure either!

BN5fNGvCQAAyXsA

The casting is done. So while I can appreciate the fandom creating an online petition to get the move recast, perhaps that energy can be redirected into something positive. Same thing goes for all you angry tweeters. Yes, be upset your Christian wasn’t chosen. But tweeting that you hate EL and company is just fifty shades of wrong. I have said it once, twice, a hundred times…. WORDS HAVE WEIGHT! We are all entitled to our own opinions, but there is something called tolerance. And cyber bullying. It amazes me the size of Ben Wa balls people have when they are hiding behind a computer screen. If you are a true fan of the books, then just know that Ms. James and her team are working tirelessly to make the best possible movie. Have some respect for the process and for people’s feelings. Okay, jumping off my soapbox now and giving you some Fifty Shades FAQ’s.

50 Shades of Casting

IT’S HERE!!!! Casting day has finally happened ! Charlie Huunam has been cast as the coveted role of Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as the lovely Ana.

I will post another blog soon to talk further details about all things casting. For right now I think it’s that time again for my PCA~ Post Casting Agreement. It’s finally time to remember that a lot of you sign, sealed, and delivered this agreement!

But in all seriousness, I ask that we all keep in mind that Team Fifty is working hard to deliver a movie that will kick ass better than the Red Room can. Please be conscience of your words for they have weight.

This is a beloved book by millions. Remember that joy you had when reading it for the first time? How you blushed at certain “oh my” parts? Well keep that in mind. And although your Christian wasn’t chosen, it will still be a beautifully made movie – Sham Wow approved.

Tweeting and Facebooking hate doesn’t do anything but hurt. E L James, Dana Brunetti, Michael DeLuca and the rest of Team Fifty are people. They are someone’s husband, wife, sister, father, and friend. They have feelings. You don’t have to love the casting choices but by all means be a person with decency. Let’s rally alongside with them and support this epic movie in the works.

Love & Laters, Michele xo

This includes rumors of STD’s, erectile dysfunction, stuffed animal collection, skinny jean obsession, doesn’t wash his hands after going to the bathroom, overheard making a remark about “Flow” being in town, along with rolling of the eyes. 50 shades of FanGirling

fangirl

Hello GREYsessed readers! One word: GAH!!!!! I hope you all listened in on Saturday as I fangirled all over the radio while hosting with Lori Ness. Yes, Lori invited me to co-host and I am still on a happy high from it! The show started off with a bang with the one and only Dana Brunetti. And unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, he is one of the amazeballs producers for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie! So getting to interview him definitely raised the ordinary to extraordinary! And no, he didn’t let out any casting secrets, but I knew that he wouldn’t. What he did tell explain is that the production of this movie is moving at lightning speed even though to us it seems to be crawling as slow as a turtle. He went into further discussion about how he came to obtain the rights to produce the movie, as well as the phenomenon that is Fifty Shades in general. We also talked about his groundbreaking series, House of Cards, which got 13 Emmy nods and the upcoming Captain Phillips featuring Tom Hanks.

dana-brunetti

I could go on and on about everything this amazing producer has his hands on. But I think you should just have a listen for yourself to understand why Team Fifty is so fortunate to have such a talented producer on board. Dana is extremely busy and I am truly appreciative that he took the time out of his Saturday afternoon to talk to us and give all of the fandom a great interview! If you didn’t listen yet, here is the link! http://t.co/fIsOrQHBtp

th

As if that wasn’t enough for me to handle, our next guests were two of my all time favorite authors, Christina Lauren. Yes, the lovely duo who wrote the Beautiful Bastard series. They currently have three books in the series released and next Tuesday Beautiful Bombshell arrives! Christina and Lauren are truly talented and the interview felt like an afternoon spent gossiping with a couple of girlfriends. In addition to chatting about all things Bastard, they also gave five lucky fans the opportunity to call in and ask a question. A huge thank you goes out to them as well for giving up some of their weekend time to speak to Lori and I. Here is the link to their portion of the show. Listen in and hear me Ooh, aah, and gah over these funny and down to earth ladies. http://t.co/JRSkbZk7GR Love you ladies…can I officially call you Lo and Christina? xoxo

**********

BUT WAIT…. THERE’S ONE MORE AMAZING PERSON TO TALK ABOUT!! I had the pleasure of reading the newly published book, Whatever It Takes by L. Maretta. This story was a refreshing relief from your typical happily ever after and really dug deep into the trials and tribulations of marriage.

maretta

Synopsis: Gavin Fitzgerald is the perfect husband. His wife, Emma, was always able to brag to her friends about how caring, loving, helpful, and successful he was. Having been married five years, they have just put the finishing touches on their dream home and are ready to start a family. Everything seems ideal until one day Gavin confesses to Emma that he was unfaithful, turning their entire relationship from perfect to a total disaster. Suddenly, Emma’s carefully controlled world is chaotic and her future uncertain as she struggles to determine if she is able to forgive Gavin or have the strength to move on. (goodreads)

Sounds intriguing doesn’t it? Well, it was and that much more! I truly loved this book for its realistic and emotional storyline. When presenting the reader with a flawed character, it’s a huge feat to have us rooting for them to make it in the end. Ms. Maretta does just that. She flawlessly develops the characters using both flashbacks and using the POV from Emma and Gavin.

What resonated with me is the complexity and insight of the story. From the sweet courtship of their relationship, to the overwhelming anguish this couple faces in order to survive, you are there for every raw emotion. You feel Emma’s internal struggle with her OCD and Gavin’s desperation to save his marriage.

This beautifully written story captures the true essence of love and what it takes to come back from the deepest of betrayals. Both characters have to not only rebuild as a couple, but as individuals. The writing is so intimate that you truly feel their connection and feel like you have one with them as well. This was definitely a page-turner for me and once I got started I couldn’t put it down. Go order, download, or buy Whatever It Takes and then you’ll understand why I can’t take out a towel from my dryer without thinking of Emma and Gavin. And please continue reading because L. Maretta has been gracious enough to do an interview with me! Thanks L.! I truly have enjoyed getting to know you and your wonderful book!

INTERVIEW WITH L. MARETTA

When did you first catch the writing bug? When I was a young teen my life went a little haywire for a while. My family moved to a different state, my parents divorced, and someone I was very close to died. Writing was cathartic. I started with writing my fantasies; my school crush professing his love for me, or something exciting that would make my drama queen years more livable. That turned into more creative stuff. My first real story that I wrote in high school was about a girl who fell in love with a boy who turned out to be a ghost. It was way before the “I see dead people” movie too! I wish I still had it.

Did you always know you were meant to write? I always knew the written word was the best form of expression for me. My brain works too fast for me to properly articulate what I want to say all the time and I tend to get emotional. I have found that writing what I need to say is much more effective, even if I do it just for myself to gather my scattered thoughts. Did I know I was meant to publish a book? Hell to the No! I’m still not convinced! While I am flattered beyond measure that people have read and enjoyed my book, it is so mind-boggling! Before I published there was a week when “Devil Maretta” sat on one shoulder while “Angel Maretta” sat on the other. “Do it!” “Don’t do it!” “It’ll be great!” “No one gives a fuck what you have to say!” Finally I told them both to shut the hell up and went about another week before I put it on Amazon. Then I did two shots of Patron.

What inspired you to write this book? I have to start out by saying that I have been fortunate enough to have never experienced adultery myself. When I was younger, yes, I had a boyfriend cheat, but as far as my husband goes, Mr. Maretta is amazing and has been faithful throughout our marriage. As far as I know, anyway…. And while it didn’t come from something that happened to me directly, there were a few things that led to the writing of Whatever It Takes.
Just before I began writing I had three (THREE!) close friends confide in me that their husbands had cheated, all within a span of two months. It was like someone slipped an infidelity pill in our water supply. Out of all my friends, they were the ones I least expected to hear this from. I was floored and so sad for them, but listened while they cried and tried to be a good friend.
During this time, I was reading several books a week, as I usually do. Most of them were the new romance novels we’ve all come to know and love. And then I thought “what would happen to these book couples if they were suddenly faced with a cheating partner?” What if Christian cheated on Ana or Gideon cheated on Ava? What if you had the happily ever after and then it all went up in flames? Would it be possible for these epic romance characters to survive something that extreme?
A lot of people feel that infidelity is unforgivable, no matter what, and I was one of them a few years ago. I was one of those girls who said, “My husband ever cheats on me, he’s out the door!” When I started to really think about adultery though, and what I would do in that position, I considered what it would be like to live without my husband. The thought alone broke my heart. I’m certain, that no matter how much betrayal hurts, being without the love of your life would hurt ten times worse. It takes just as much, if not more, strength to forgive than to move on and start over. Whatever It Takes came from there.

It centers around the act of adultery. Was this a tough subject to write about? Yes! It’s so hard to write a character who is technically the villain in the story yet still the hero. I wanted the readers to feel for Emma but not hate Gavin, and that was so difficult! How do you not hate him for what he did?
The first draft of the book was only written from Emma’s point of view but I just couldn’t get Gavin’s guilt and remorse to translate well enough. As I was writing I would send one chapter at a time to my sister to read and she finally suggested the change. I did some major editing and added his POV. I think that really helped to convey that he was truly sorry for what he did and regretted it more than anything.

Gavin and Emma are clearly made for each other. Who do you envision as their characters? As I was writing they really remained faceless. They’re just your average married couple. I want anyone who can relate to my story to be able to picture themselves as the characters.

Is there a particular scene that is your favorite? The opening scene when they’re having the party and Emma is surrounded by her friends and family with the fresh knowledge of Gavin’s cheating in her head. It was fun to write and yet terrifying because I knew I had just a few pages to grab my readers’ attention. Those first few pages make or break your whole story. Emma is so fragile at that stage and yet keeps herself together. What woman wouldn’t be able to relate to putting on a brave front?
The scene where Emma is leaving for her getaway with Yvonne and she and Gavin say goodbye was also a favorite. That scene was so pivotal for both of them. It was the first time Gavin actually realized he could very well lose her and for Emma it was the first time she knew she was going to have to work to move past it. It was hard to write even though it was a short scene.

Do you find it difficult to write sexy scenes? Yes, but because there are only so many euphemisms to use when it comes to body parts and orgasms! You can only use “cock” and “pussy” so many times and Webster’s Thesaurus isn’t going to help you out in that department! I tried to keep each scene from being repetitive and I hope I succeeded. I do find that writing sex scenes and reading them are totally different. I would compare it to actors filming them for movies. It’s hot for the reader/viewer but it’s just so technical when it’s being recorded.

Do you have particular writing routines? Since I teach I have summers off so that would be the ideal time to write, yes? Of course, but did I do that? No. The itch to write doesn’t only hit between June and August so I had to work it around my job. I also have two young daughters who participate in a lot of activities and so my routine pretty much consists of staying up until obscene hours of the night with lots of coffee.

I just loved both Gavin and Emma. What do you love about them? I love Gavin for his relentlessness. He was never willing to give up and worked his ass off to try to fix what he had broken. And there is no better combination than a half Irish, half Italian man! I love how romantic he was, too. His love notes and “bouquets” were adorable.
Emma I love for her ability to stay strong through one of life’s toughest challenges. In her mind she’s an absolute wreck but on the outside she holds it together. I also love that while she had insecurities she didn’t take shit from anyone. She had the guts to tell Gavin, “You fucked up and it’s not okay!” She didn’t just accept that he was sorry, she made him prove it. I love her OCD traits, too. She inherited them from me!

Any chance of a sequel? Not for Emma and Gavin, no. I loved writing them but in my opinion, sequels rarely work out well.

Any new books in the works that we can look forward to? I have another book available on Amazon right now called Falling from Disgrace. It’s about a woman who is addicted to painkillers and struggles to maintain any type of relationship due to her lifestyle. She meets a guy named Jack and the story centers around her trying to get better while learning how to love and be loved. One of the characters from that book, Gillian, has her own story to be told. I’m working on it now.
